This Saturday is a big day for Nicki Blue…the day most girls dream about and parents dread…the day a young lady turns into a woman…the day a girl loses her virginity. In an interview with blogger Fleur De Lis SF, Nicki explains how she’s gotten to the ripe old age of 21 and in the adult industry with her virginity intact: “I am from the South, where typically you are told to stay a virgin until you’re married. I did a lot of anal play, I got a lot of stimulation from that and oral. I looooove oral. I could generally keep my boyfriends happy with blowjobs and anal sex.”
The show will start with a “trained expert” inserting a “hymen-cam” to “prove” that she’s a “true virgin”. It’s actually the hymen cam that’s stirring up most of the controversy on the interwebs…not the fact that the viewers get to vote on which of the three Kink.com stars get to go where no man has gone before, or the fact that she’s chosen to drop her V-card with a live studio and internet audience, or that the staging of the event is going to look like a Catholic mass, OR that she’s going “airtight” probably looking like this with all three gentlemen.
In case you’re wondering what Nicki’s preference is, she had only this to say: “I want Jack Hammer to take my ass and I want James Dean to take my pussy. I really would like Jack Hammer to be the one to take my virginity but in my mind I really don’t want to bleed that much. If I bleed a lot, they’ll have to call off the shoot. Miss Maggie Mayhem explored the topic of virginity in light of this story on her blog. While she fully supports Nicki Blue and her fellow actors, she was critical of the way Kink was handling the press for the event:
“I find the marketing and publicity around this shoot to be the issue at hand. To decide that you want to engage in any particular sex act for the first time in a way that you will find really enjoyable is sex positive. There is no inherent exploitation involved in filming it and for some of us that just adds to the experience. When I read, “We strive each and every day to bring the best possible content to our customers and sacrificing Nikki’s innocence is in perfect alignment with what our fans expect and deserve,” I feel that the sex positive message is lost. That same sentence also reminds us that commercial value is of a much higher importance than sex positivity. For most porn sites that comes as no surprise. The only reason that a lot of people are speaking up about this has to do with the expressed mission statement to, “…demystify and celebrate alternative sexualities by providing the most ethical and authentic kinky adult entertainment.” In this case, sexuality is not being demystified; it is being further obscured. It does not celebrate alternative sexualities because it so very deeply phallocentric and heteronormative.”
I’m not really sure where I stand on this issue. On the one hand, I think it’s totally up to Nicki Blue when she hands over her V card and how it all goes down. She picked Kink to host her big moment so it certainly seems like she’s on board with everything they’re doing. She hints that there are certain things she feels like she has to do for her fans but that’s how most performers feel so I can’t be mad at her for that. The only itch I can’t scratch is why she’s held onto it this long…if it really is a Southern thang and she felt pressure to hold onto it for this long, what shifted? Is it the industry that she’s been in? Life circumstances? A change in her moral code? I don’t really need to know nor do I deserve to or probably ever will know…but the only thing that really matters is that Nicki is comfortable with Kink and how they are handling everything and with her decision to do this and in this manner. My other concern is that this might peg her as a one trick pony…but the flip side of that coin is that I didn’t know her name on Monday and now hundreds of thousands of people not only know her name but know that on Saturday they can click here and watch her deflowering. And if I know those things about her…maybe I’ll watch her other stuff and maybe she’ll become my favorite BDSM model. So I hope she got paid BANK and that this crazy virgin circus act will only do wonderful things for her career. Also there’s probably about a 95% chance she’s gonna get HPV tomorrow, if she doesn’t already have it, so I hope she’s up on her vaccines.
As far as the pageantry and Kink returning to “heteronormative” types of porn, I can’t really be mad at them either. Nicki came to them with something that’s pretty rare…even in most high schools these days. She’s already in the industry, comfortable in front of the camera, and a fabulous performer so why not trump it up and really pimp out the event? Hats off to the kids at Kink!
