You should be reading Violet Blue’s blog. But just in case you aren’t, I wanted to repeat her AWESOME list “Ten Reasons Pornography Can Be Part of a Healthy Sex Life”:
- It’s a sex toy used for masturbation, which is good for the blood flow to the genital region (among other things).
- Porn portrays fantasies in controlled conditions enacted by professionals, so you can enjoy a fantasy without risk.
- You can take your time to look at aroused sex organs up close, without pressure, and see variety and detail.
- It can be shared with a lover to spice up a quiet night at home.
- Watching it with a lover can help you find out more of what they like (and dislike).
- You can pretend to “do” things you would never do in real life.
- Porn helps you figure out what you do and do not like about sex.
- It gets to the point quickly, so you can get turned on right away (hopefully).
- Porn is a great outlet to use to be sexually self-reliant when solo sex is your main option.
- It can help you understand your sexual identity.
Ms. Blue created this list because there is a all-out war going on against porn. So-called feminists and Big Brother want to take away your right to jerk-off while watching other people get it on on your monitor of choice.
If by chance, you don’t know who Violet Blue is, you need to learn about her right here, right now. She takes the internet by storm with her tech savvy and her sex knowledge and advocacy. I’ve read her blog for years and was fortunate to meet her at a party. We had a quick conversation about my favorite blog post of hers that also doubled as a column for the San Francisco Chronicle: Local Sex Acts By The Numbers. In it she data mines Craigslist (San Francisco) to find out exactly what people want from their Casual Encounters. I’m sure she doesn’t remember the conversation (and quite frankly, I’m surprised I remember it because my date at that party was Jack Daniels), but it was great to discuss her findings. She was sweet and informative, even while I gushed all over her.
Do yourself a favor and check out her blog. We need to support all the sex-positive people out there at a time when fear of sexual expression is waging its war.
